MIC will be at the first ESTEL Conference in Rome:

Estel Conference is the first international IEEE-AESS conference in Europe dedicated to telecommunications via satellite for “Advanced Services and Applications, Architectures, Technologies and Terminals”. The meeting welcomes the most important international experts in the sectors of satellite communications, antennas, navigation systems, integrated satellite systems, sensing and electronic systems engineering, emerging technologies and relative Value added Services & Applications. The Conference will be taken on October 2-3-4-5/2012.

MIC – ISMB will contribute with a paper on Medical Intelligent System for Assisted Living – Proof of Concept. Khalid Charqane from MIC will present the session. More details will be shared soon.

Medica: MIC Torino present Medical Proof Of Concept

During, the medical technology trade fair in Düsseldorf Germany held in November from 16 to 19, MIC Torino, represented by Khalid Charqane, and other partners presented a preview of the Medical Intelligent System Proof Of Concept.

The Medical Proof of Concept scenario is based on an initiative of Microsoft, which has been realized in cooperation with several Microsoft partners who brought in their individual technological know-how and expertise:

  • Microsoft Windows Embedded Systems
  • Microsoft Health Vault
  • Microsoft Innovation Center of Torino
  • Freescale Semiconductor Inc.
  • UI Centric Limited
  • Kontron

This concept shows that it is possible also in the medical area to integrate separate technological islands into comprehensive integrated systems. The Windows Embedded operating system plays the key role in the Medical Proof of Concept scenario. The different Windows Embedded versions offer the common basis for medical end devices, communication systems, mobile technologies and Cloud based solutions.
The “Medical Proof of Concept“ scenario provides a number of devices and communication technologies which are specifically developed for the medical industry integrated within one system. It allows to connect different environments and demonstrates how patients can be monitored at home. This leads to an increased quality of life for the patients while simultaneously reducing time and costs of medical care.

By using common communication ways, the measured health data are transferred to the “Home Health Hub”, a type of health center for private households. The weighing machine and the blood pressure measuring device transfer the values via the medical communication standard named ZigBee. The blood glucose measuring device communicates via Bluetooth SPP and the thermometer by using Bluetooth Low Energy. The hub bundles, converts and sends the data via the internet to the health portal “Microsoft HealthVault”. The patients’ health record, which can be accessed by the treating physician, the caregivers or by the patients’ relatives, is maintained in the Cloud based solution.

The role of the Microsoft Innovation Center was to provide the health data maintained in Microsoft Health Vault to physicians and caregivers in an appropriate form – which means quickly, in a precise and intuitive manner, by developing a Windows Phone mobile app and a Windows Embedded Standard 7 tablet application which enables physicians to directly access Microsoft Health Vault. This way, physicians can retrieve the health data or save new information, such as diagnoses or reports, just with a few fingertips.

Focus Embedded: le sfide per il futuro

Nel corso della 9° edizione di Focus Embedded (Milano, 15 novembre 2011), la mostra convegno sul mercato embedded organizzata dalle riviste Embedded, EO-Elettronica Oggi ed EONews, la sessione plenaria ha toccato alcune tematiche di stretta attualità riguardanti settori chiave quali trasporti, medicale e telecomunicazione. Nella notizia una sintesi degli interventi.

Fabrizio Dominici, R&D coordinator del Microsoft Innovation Center di Torino Dominici ha presentato un preview del Medical Proof of Concept, un progetto dedicato al mondo della medicina e della salute sviluppato dal centro di innovazione torinese costituito da Microsoft e Istituto Superiore Mario Boella.

Tecnologie embedded e una piattaforma open cloud vengono impiegate per offrire la possibilità di sviluppare applicazioni e servizi innovativi in ambito medico con l’obiettivo di ridurre la distanza tra il paziente e il centro di assistenza, quale ad esempio l’ospedale.

Freescale ha realizzato tutti i device per creare una sorta di home gateway che attraverso la piattaforma Health Vault (sul cloud di Microsoft Windows Azure) tiene monitorati tutti i parametri e le informazioni relative al paziente, le indirizza al centro medico e automaticamente può anche prenotare visite e richiedere assistenza medico-infermieristica. Anche i parenti del malato possono controllare tutte le informazioni utilizzando dei terminali smart-phone e la tecnologia mobile Windows Phone.

La piattaforma Health Vault assicura i massimi livelli di sicurezza nella gestione di dati che sono ovviamente sensibili; già adottata negli Stati Uniti e in UK, verrà introdotta a breve anche in Germania. Il progetto Medical Proof of Concept è una declinazione dell’approccio “intelligent system”, che vede la generazione di informazioni da terminali con tecnologia embedded supportati in modo nativo ed integrato da piattaforme cloud di Microsoft.

Authentication Problem on HealthVault: Blank Page

Yesterday I installed our desktop HealthVault (HV) application on a Tablet PC running Windows 7 (Acer Iconia W501).

When you start the application for the first time you have to provision it (authenticate). For this operation you are redirected to the HealthVault website by means of your default browser, where you have to enter your HV account in order to allow the application to access HV data (as shown in the images below).

Sometimes, after entering your username and your password you will be redirect to a blank page. If you refresh it (F5) and the page still remains blank, and if this behavior happens also if you are trying to access HV website directly from your browser, then probably there is a problem.

What is the problem?

Talking with Trey Troegel (from HV support) he told me to share the desktop to find the solution. So I installed Microsoft Lync on the tablet and when I tried to log on the Microsoft network I receive this error, that it was also the SOLUTION:

Yes. My computer clock wasn’t set correctly: 11th of November, instead of 10th of November 🙂
Maybe I made this mistake during the first boot installation of the tablet…. it happens!

I thought that this may affect the authentication process, so I changed the clock and I tried to log again to the HV website…. and finally the authentication worked.

In conclusion if you face this problem try to adjust your system clock… maybe this will solve your problem.

Thanks to Trey for his idea of installing Lync because he gave me the message error that was useful to solve this problem. Maybe it will be useful to receive this error message also from the website, instead of a blank page.
